How to maintain a calm and positive mind while WFH.

It’s probably something we’ve all dreamt about at some point in our lives, rolling out of bed at 8:55am, skipping the traffic and being able to wear pjs all day. But in reality, working from home all day can get quite lonely, demotivating and exhausting.

The world we are living in now is completely different to the one we were living in only a few weeks ago. Should you find yourself pining for the office life, grab yourself a Nescafe 3 in 1 and see our tips on how we can best manage our time and keep ourselves sane at the same time.

Change your environment:

Our behaviour is the direct result of the environment we are in. If you’re in limited space, be sure to move around often (at least every 30/45 mins) stretch, shake your body or just jump up and down, take a few deep breaths and sit back down, this will have a huge impact on your day as you are changing your environment.

Limit your news intake:

Whilst it is good to keep up to date with what is happening in the world right now, reading too many news articles can make you feel anxious and uncertain. Set yourself certain times to read/watch the news, it could be once in the morning and evening. Look at filling your day with the positives; follow these accounts for a daily dose of the good stuff:

Make time for you:

Video calls are great if you’re feeling lonely or isolated, join your workmates for a catch up over lunch or your morning coffee. Although we are not physically together we’ve never been more connected and that’s amazing. Think about how you’d like to spend your time in the evening, learn a new skill, maybe some online learning, get out in the garden if you have one, practice some yoga or just relax with your favourite facemask.

Spend your ‘me time’ doing something that makes you feel great and you’ll wake up the next day ready to accomplish anything.

Stick to a routine:

Probably the most important thing we can do while working from home is to stick to a routine. Try and wake up at the same time you normally would, get dressed, do your hair and you’ll feel ready for anything.

Write a to-do list the night before of everything you’d like to accomplish by the end of the next day. Try not to make it too long so you don’t feel overwhelmed. Include things like, getting some fresh air, catching up with a work colleague/friend.

Look after your mind:

If you are home alone, see if there’s an online community you can join. It could be a book club that meets online once a week. Even if you can’t leave your house for a month or so you can still be a part of a community. Check in with family and friends daily. I don’t think we’ve spoken to our families so much over the last few weeks! If you are home with family use that time to connect, play games, cook, learn together, be grateful for the extra time you have to spend together when normally we get so lost in day to day work life.
