Decentraland Plaza: All You Need to Know

The Metaverse is a digital space and 3D universe that consists of multiple spaces and this is the latest iteration of the internet and the online experience. The Metaverse allows users to meet, work, game, engage and socialize in a futuristic environment through avatars.

Decentraland is a virtual world that exists within the Metaverse and is a place where users are able to purchase virtual plots as NFTs via the MANA cryptocurrency. Decentraland was launched to the public in February 2020 and is overseen by the nonprofit Decentraland Foundation.

Within the Decentraland virtual world exists the Decentraland plaza. The Decentraland Plaza sits at the heart of the Decentraland experience and provides a stepping stone for the rest of the virtual world. The Plaza, known as Genesis Plaza, has been going through consistent improvements to ensure users are able to navigate through the space with ease.

What you will find in the Genesis Plaza

Before we take a look at Decentraland Plaza, the first thing you need to do is create your very own avatar. This is the first place you can use your creative skills and embrace your childhood Sims experience!

You are able to build your Avatar to suit your specific needs and aesthetic - and remember, if you get bored of your Avatar you are able to change your appearance inside the game by visiting the start menu.

Now is when the exploration begins and it is time to enter the Genesis Plaza.

As your avatar enters this world you may become overwhelmed by all the avatars that surround the space - but your very own Metaverse mentor, Alice, will swoop right in and provide you with advice on how to begin your Metaverse journey.

Now, let’s take a look at the Plaza itself.

The Lobby

When you enter Decentraland Genesis Plaza you will be greeted with a snow white cloud and it is here that you will be presented with 3 primary information boards. These boards display classic games, lists of locations where users hang out as well as upcoming live events. You will also see a large hole in the center of the lobby and once you have finished going through the boards - you have the opportunity to dive into the hole. And we highly suggest you take this leap because you will be transported to the main area of the building.

Meet the Cool Kids

The main area of the building consists of two levels, the ground floor, and an upstairs outdoor area. A bar/café makes up the ground floor and provides you with the opportunity to meet other users and NPCs for you to practice your communication skills on. The ground floor also consists of discord and Twitter links and fascinating digital works of art. There is a lift that exists on the ground floor that will transport you to the outdoor platform that provides unbelievable views of Decentraland and what’s on offer.

Navigating the Space

So, how do you navigate the space on your PC? If you are a fan of gaming - this is the easy part.

Direct your view using the mouse
Press V to switch between 1st and 3rd person views
Move through the space using W-A-S-D keys or the arrows
Click the spacebar to jump
You can begin speaking to other users via the easy-to-use chat function available in the space or simply by pressing T and speaking through your microphone.
